An Englisch-Tigrinya children's book, that bridges generations.
A day in Timnit’s life – so simple, yet so meaningful: waking up, sharing meals, laughing, being together as a family.
Within these moments lies something that is often lost – and here, carefully preserved: language.

Three language layers open doors:
For many, Tigrinya lives on in spoken memories —
this book brings it to life in a way that can be seen, felt, and shared, accessible for all language levels.
It connects generations,
creates closeness across distances,
and keeps alive what is meant to be passed on.

About THURSDAYS AT THE GEBRE'S
This book was born from a very personal moment.
While reading aloud, I often found myself translating children’s books from German into Tigrinya – and that’s when the thought came:
How beautiful would it be to hold a book in my hands where our language simply has its place. A book that doesn’t need to be translated, but simply exists as it is.
That’s how this book came to life.
A book that makes our language visible.
A book that reflects our culture in small, everyday moments.
It was especially important to me to create a book that can be read across generations – where parents, grandparents, and children can all find their language.
And one that also offers access to those who speak Tigrinya but cannot read it.
I hope this book brings joy to many families –
and passes on a small piece of home.
